Terri Schiavo’s Family: Where They Are Now

A few years ago Brad met Terri Schiavo’s family for the first time. Terri’s mom, Mary, and dad, Bob Schindler, along with her sister, Suzanne, and brother, Bobby each shared a deep sadness regarding the unnecessary ending of Terri’s life. The country followed the story, as told by the mainstream media, of the family’s battle to save Terri’s life. Now, four years after Terri’s death, Brad revisits the family and learns that the message the media shared with the public wasn’t the whole truth.

There are many stories similar to Terri’s. The Schindler family founded the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation and Terri’s Day to support and educate families who find themselves on a similar journey to protect a loved one’s life. Families like the Richardsons have taken solace in knowing the foundation exists.

Randy Richardson’s daughter, Lauren, was placed on life support after an accident left her in a coma. Lauren was 12 weeks pregnant at the time of the accident, so doctors decided to do all they could to stabilize Lauren until the baby was viable. After she gave birth to her daughter, the medical tide turned, and Randy found himself in a battle to keep Lauren alive. Eventually the doctors and family came to a resolution regarding the value of Laurens life, and she is now receiving the physical support needed to bring her home.

Suzanne, Bobby, Mary, and Bob are encouraged to know they are helping families protect the lives of loved ones because through their experience they know life is too valuable to measure.
